This past Thursday, March 12, Agora Gallery hosted an opening reception for the shows The Essence of Abstraction, Mélange of Milieu, and Portals of Perception.
Before artists could be whisked away by gallery guests, Director Angela Di Bello introduced each of the three exhibitions and the talented artists participating in the current shows. The artists took this time to share their process, their inspirations, and their goals, which ranged from Varda Yoran’s focus on “human emotion and motion,” to Edward Bahoric’s inspiration drawn from “body movement” and his time as a professional figure skater.
“This is art. This is a beautiful thing for helping humans to survive,” – Loukas Tsvedos, whose bronze sculptures are being shown in Mélange of Milieu.
Agora Gallery’s opening receptions offer the opportunity for interaction and discussion between incredible artists, staff, and art enthusiasts from around the world. On this beautiful Spring evening, I had the chance to speak with many of these individuals about their favorite part of going to an Agora Gallery opening reception in the unmatched art world of New York City.
What is your favorite part of going to an opening reception?
“Being able to see all of the artists interact with one another.” – Gallery Assistant Arielle
“The diversity in the arts, the variety and cultures, the styles and ideas. I’ve kept coming back because it’s a little neighborhood, a community. It’s a cultural experience of New York.” – Gallery enthusiast and artist, Richard, with visiting friend, Mikey
“I love looking at the emotion and size of a piece. It’s also very nice to talk to the staff, who just get it.” – Artist Lucy O’Donovan
“The dialogue and the contact with all of these lovely people who have an interest in my paintings. It’s so easy for me to connect with people here.” – Artist Anni Koch-Knudsen
“Let’s be honest, it’s the cookies and the wine.” – Gallery visitors Ana and Shannon
What is your favorite part of being in New York City?
“When I’m driving down the avenues, and it’s like going down through the canyons. It’s mind blowing.” – Artist Marcella Lassen (pictured to the left)
“I love that there are endless things to do. You can never be bored.” – Gallery visitor David
“It’s the scale. Because I lived in London and now live here in Brooklyn, I love big cities. You can go and get a more authentic experience in a big city. I love to capture the culture and emotion.” – Artist Paul Juniper
