Verdachos and Morrallas

Verdachos and Morrallas Oil on Canvas 15" x 12" x 1.5"

Colombian born artist Carlos Tamayo makes known through vivid portraiture, the importance of laborers within mining communities of the Americas. A country known for its regional tensions with guerrilla, paramilitary forces and drug trafficking, Columbia has been at the center of armed conflicts and contested power. Sharing cultural roots, the artist investigates these resilient regions of labor power.

Despite the dissension, the artist sees hope in depicting the strength of the laborers within the mining communities. Having survived great tumult, the workers share amongst each other and with the artist their anecdotes. These experiences are translated into the figures, giving representation to those who were once invisible.
