The new group exhibition Portal to Enigma collects the newest ideas in abstraction and presents them in animated dialogue with one another. Among the many non-representational works featured, there are experiments with repetition, texture, mark-making, and heightened colors. There are stuffed compositions and pieces that speak volumes with only a few streaks. There are also highly stylized portraits that treat the face as a single, unbroken black line, figure studies that fracture the body into many different views, and landscapes that present nature as a rainbow of saturated tones. Despite their wide range of aesthetics and concerns, every piece in Portal to Enigma is marked by a tireless energy and a relentless curiosity.
Agora Gallery was established by the late Miki Stiles, MFA, to provide opportunities to artists entering the global art market. Located in the heart of the famous Chelsea art district, the gallery occupies the ground floor of 530 West 25th Street.
