In the way they orchestrate works composed of blocks, Silvio Fischbein’s mixed-media artifacts radiate a quality which approaches child-like winsomeness. Yet they also remind the viewer of Percy Shelley’s statement about poesis being a many-sided glass that collects the brightest rays of human endeavor. The constructed quality of Fischbein’s works ties in nicely with this sentiment; and the quality of poesis, of making, permeates the whole of his piece titled 212, which not only uses maps, along with other paper materials more reminiscent of a prism, but uses newspaper headlines in an artfully appropriative way.
