Patti Hodder is a self-taught artist from Long Island who works with fluid acrylic painting as well as monoprints. Heavily inspired by the duality of the biggest city in the United States, and the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, Hodder creates works that combine the bright and stunning colors of one with the immeasurably beautiful and continuously changing organic shapes of the other. Working with fluid painting, there is a degree of spontaneity in her work which directly parallels that of the ocean and nature at large that she is inspired by, while the layered aspects of both printmaking as well as painting can be likened to the practice of layering manmade creations over nature to create a unique landscape.
For Hodder, her practice is meditative and creating artworks allow her to express herself whilst also bringing her peace. The idea of creating something that looks and feels right, whether on purpose or by chance during the process excites her and she is overjoyed by the prospect of sharing a part of her in her work for others to make a part of their own daily life and creative process.
