NORA PINEDA

Fall Equinox: A Collective Exhibition
September 17 – October 8, 2019
Reception: Thursday, September 19, 2019 6-8 PM

Nora Pineda’s work is created to capture the great depths of emotion, celebration, suffering, and cultural bonding. Passionately reflecting on her Mexican roots, Pineda’s sculptures are created as stories in the round. She transforms and mutates a magic fusion of colors, and shapes, giving them life. Pineda showcases the power of women in her sculptures by subtly adding the feminine profile in each work. “When I make a vessel form, I might include curves within it, like hips or breasts, and then burnish them so they are smooth and polished like flesh,” says Pineda.

“I think I have soul,” admits the artist, who was once told that she could make “the ugly, beautiful.” This is evident in her ceramic work, which is then finished in acrylic and oil.

Pineda captures the essence and beauty of humanity; her addition of flower petals to each work fashions the idea of dealing with one’s aura and are used to symbolically connect the earth to women.
