Catherine Timotei is a French contemporary artist who lives between Corsica, France, and South Africa. In search of the sublime, Timotei depicts the fundamentals of the world’s essential crisis with a leap into the Abstract. Timotei’s style is highly acclaimed by critics for its large-scale dimension, vibrant colors, and expressive notes that draw from key aesthetics of the most highly regarded and sought-after masters of art; her compositions are grounded in philosophy with the desire to express emotion and to touch the human soul.
Timotei learned to draw in Santo Domingo in 1986 and later attending the Lorenzo Di Medici art school in Florence, Italy where she focused on the creative processes and artwork of the Italian masters. Having studied the Abstract Expressionist paintings at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, Timotei learned the techniques of Abstract Expressionism and in which she applies to her body of work; using pure pigments mixed with linseed oil that are applied on linen and allowing to dry for various lengths of time, producing multi-dimensional layers of color, creating a visual illusion.
