Darla Rewers uses oil, acrylic, encaustic, and mixed media on canvas and wood panels to create works that combine dimensionality and a distinct graphic quality. In some pieces, she uses only paint to build up textured images of swirling figures or symbols. In others, a mixture of geometric cut and found objects complement the layered and varied manner in which Rewers paints. At times, flat designs, patterns, or decals overlay more varied planes of color. Simultaneously, Rewers introduces smaller details, from shells to carefully painted dots, into each work to build up a world of intricacy. Each fluid brush stroke brings to mind the organic world, allowing Rewers to explore and experience her surroundings through natural forms. This meditative and connected approach is evident in the layered and carefully integrated shapes that she favors. Rewers hopes to transfer a meditative state to the viewer through her compassionate images.

Living and also working as a holistic veterinarian in Seattle, Rewers uses her visual art to explore questions of human existence. The interconnected nature of each piece is rooted in her experience in shamanic and meditative practices.
