The forms of nature, from flowers to the human body, are the focus of Tiziana Fejzullaj’s paintings. She brings those forms alive in works that combine dynamic compositions with a subtle mix of textures, transforming their subjects into multi-layered patterns. While the artist notes the influence figurative art has had on her work, she moves beyond that influence through her approach to color and technique. In her pictures, sharp details and spontaneous drips and strokes of paint intersect, resulting in works that engage the viewer on several levels, capturing the feel and look of the human figure, while also foregrounding the physical qualities of the paint itself.
Working primarily in oils, Fejzullaj makes the most of the visual variety and rich colors they provide. This gives each picture a well-rounded sense of space and depth, which is further highlighted by her ability to capture the effects of light and shadow, and use variations of tone and shade to animate each image. Born and raised in Albania, she moved to New York City, where she now lives and works, in 2014.
