Inspired by his passion for storytelling, RAN’s paintings account for each element as part of a whole. Embracing discipline and diligence in creating the image narrative, his large-scale abstract acrylic works investigate the meaning in beauty, depicting individuality and boldness. “I believe in the concept of human life as an extensive narrative from birth to death,” says the artist. He achieves impasto, the textured, and interwoven effect of his work, through the application of thick paint, acrylic or oil. He employs the careful usage of painting knives to elicit character and structure from the visual viewpoint of his composition.
Born in Ghana, RAN spent childhood afternoons drawing, and was later fascinated by the reflective facial expressions in Leo Sarkisian’s art. As Head of Graphics in Ghana, RAN handled the design accounts of multinational companies, such as Shell. He obtained a Masters in Graphic Design & Communication while continuing to paint. Now based in the UK, RAN’s pursuit as a painter is in full effect as he interplays between story lines, weaving together the relevant elements he gathers into his pieces, resulting in colorful, impactful imagery.
