Hauntingly intimate, Giovanni Sanesi’s paintings sweep the viewer into an alternate universe where time stands still and anything is possible. 3-D paintings convene next to politicians engaged in intimate displays of affection while other figures lose their faces, fade and trill in response to one another. Interested in human bonds, non-binary consciousness, and new socially engaged figurative movements, Sanesi conveys deeply felt attachment inspired by his upbringing in a large family in Italy with 17 siblings. Sanesi paints using acrylics, oils, gouache, and multimedia from his collection of daily video and photographic documentation.
Sanesi splits his time between New York and Florence, Italy.
