For Yvonne Muinde, all visual art forms share a common purpose: the evocation of a feeling that challenges viewers' habitual ways of thinking and how they view the world. The sectional, oil on canvas work Eyes of Monsters does exactly this. Looking at the individual canvases that make up the work, one is forced to look for humanity in the eyes of tyrants. What more, while each face is identifiable, there’a a familiarity, and even innocence about each gaze that starkly contrasts with the actions of the people represented.
