Hiromichi Matsudaira is a Japanese artist living and working in Berlin. Working with both medium and large format cameras, his photographs are informed by working in a darkroom as much as Zen philosophy, existentialism, gestalt psychology, quantum mechanics and American literature.
In Consciousness, the photographic eye penetrates centripetally into the depth of the nature of being, using a car door as vehicle toward this kind of awareness. In the almost synchronistic arrangement of objects and persons captured, the question of being is existentially addressed through the camera’s lens.
