The 2010 Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Results
Agora Gallery is pleased to announce
the results of the 2010 Chelsea International Fine Art Competition. The competition
is renowned for having some of the most prominent museum curators and art experts
engaged in the jurying process. What a wonderful way to keep your artwork in the
forefronts of the minds of important art experts! "Entering competitions takes
energy, courage and strong belief in oneself and anyone who simply enters competitions
is a winner,” says Agora Gallery Director Angela Di Bello, who has vast experience
on the art circuit. The competition was juried by Ms. Megan Fontanella, Assistant
Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
Please note: Ms. Fontanella is not affiliated with Agora Gallery
in any manner. Agora Gallery and its employees had no input or influence in the
selection process

Eye on the Artist - Nathan Sawaya
Hometown: NYC
Preferred medium: LEGO®
Internationally famous, Nathan Sawaya has appeared on the Today show, Late Night
with David Letterman, and has been featured in Newsweek magazine, CNN.com's Pipeline
and CNN Headline News and most recently the NY Times. Sawaya can build anything
almost anything from traditional square and rectangular LEGO bricks. Although the
artist lives and works in New York, where he has a studio full of more than 1.5
million LEGO pieces, this is his first solo show in the city and the first exhibition
in NY to be compromised entirely of LEGO Bricks. Viewers both young and old will
be thrilled by his life-size LEGO models, which are smooth from a distance and full
of angles close up. Using this distinctive material, Nathan Sawaya creates works
that resonate with all ages in a special way - as he says, "Who didn’t play with
LEGOs when they were a kid?" He rediscovered his own childhood enjoyment through
entering and winning a competition hosted by LEGO. After seeing the audience's excited
reaction, he left his job as a corporate lawyer and never looked back.
Brick by Brick will run from March 23 - April 13, 2010
Admission is free and open to the public.
