Thank You
All of the staff was so touched by your emails and concern for our safety and we
feel blessed to have you as members of our extended family of artists. Hurricane
Irene has caused a great deal of devastation all along the east coast; however,
we were fortunate to come through it without any harm to property, ourselves, neighbors
or loved ones. I feel as though your good wishes, prayers and loving thoughts carried
us through the most difficult hours.
Thank you so much for all your amazing support!

Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition Reception
On Thursday, August
25, 2011 Agora Gallery opened its doors to welcome art enthusiasts to the reception
of the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition. The show is an annual
event which features the works of artists who have been selected by the competition
juror. This year's juror was Elisabeth Sherman, of the Whitney Museum of American
Art.
The exhibition is always a popular and eagerly anticipated one, due to the compelling,
energetic and appealing nature of the works on display. There is generally a wide
variety of styles and mediums represented, contributing to a well-rounded and diverse
collection of art with the power to attract viewers of different tastes and preferences.
The reception was
a fun, lively event much enjoyed by the enthusiastic visitors. The audience was
made up of a range of ages, from young people and students to older viewers, some
of whom have been visiting Chelsea reception nights for years, and it was great
to see people reacting with interest and passion to the art in front of them.

The following New York City photographs were shared with us by Catherine Gaillard
Perez and Ilse Bormann. They offer a unique view of popular sites seen through the

Pop Up Pop Art Fashion Event. Pop artist, past Chelsea International Fine Art Competition
selected artist and ARTisSpectrum feature writer Hally McGehean
will premiere her first wearable art collection during New York Fashion Week in
a two-part fashion event in the Meatpacking District and SoHo. Known for her Obama
Bag that was personally endorsed by the President, and a retail collection designed
for the Whitney Museum of American Art, Ms. McGehean's work is threadless and plastic,
made from laminated magazine cutouts that are fastened together with plastic cable
ties and metal split rings. McGehean caught the fashion industry's attention recently
when one of her dresses was worn by Darian Darling, guest of Lady Gaga. Ms. Darling,
an icon of New York City nightlife, will walk in the September 12 show. Part One:
Highline Runway Walk, The Highline, beginning at Gansevoort Plaza, Gansevoort and
Washington Streets, 5pm

Agora Gallery's staff will once again take part in the Susan G. Komen Race for the
Cure. This annual event raises funds for fighting breast cancer, a terrible disease
that many of us have experienced in our own families, communities and friendship
groups. We are proud to be contributing in our small way to this excellent cause,
and we invite any of our artists who are in New York that weekend to join Team Agora
in Central Park as we run, jog or walk together. For more information contact race
day “Team Captain” and Exhibition Coordinator
Nellie Scott.
