February at Agora Gallery
In New York, the crisp air
reminds you that spring is around the corner and the serenity of winter will soon
be exchanged for the vibrancy of new life. The hope of a refreshing change of seasons
was very apparent at Agora Gallery, as the light-hearted mood continued into the
February 10th reception. Breathing lively energy into the New York art market, artists
from around the world celebrated their participation in the current collective exhibition.
Joining us for her second exhibition at Agora Gallery, Brazilian artist
Jane Sandes grabbed the attention of onlookers with her innovative abstract
sculptures. The multi-dimensional pieces are a marriage of geometry and volume,
creating a dynamic visual relationship between lines and space.
Showcasing his dance-inspired figurative paintings, artist
Peter Sherman connected the viewers with the harmonious beauty that is the
human form in motion. The fluidity of movement in dancing has long inspired Peter's
own expression on canvas. "Contemporary dance has given us a whole new vocabulary
of movements that express human emotions. For me, being able to see the richness
of expression in everyday feelings, conveyed by frame by frame body movements
where limbs, muscles, shadow and light represent a balanced whole, is key to my
work." - Peter Sherman.

Winter Workout

Here is what our staffers are doing to keep in shape this winter season:
Angela Di Bello/ Gallery Director:
In addition to my 45 minute morning walk/run intervals at the health club and walking
1.5 miles to the gallery each day, the winter months have provided an opportunity
to learn new athletic skills, like climbing mounds of snow and leaping over puddles
of melting ice.
Sabrina Gilbertson/ Assistant Director:
Walking from my deskto Angela's deskand back again.
Nellie Scott/Exhibition Coordinator:
Running for my train, long walks on the beach, skiing and hot yoga.
Clara Lemaire/Curatorial Assistant:
Taking long walks in the snow right after it falls and looking at all of the pretty,
colorful houses near the Hudson River.
Chiara Mortaroli/Gallery Assistant:
Walking 10 blocks back and forth to the subway to come to work and lifting/carrying
the supermarket food bags and my laundry bags.
Alexandra Cespedes/Marketing Assistant:
House dance classes 3 days of the week.
