Rudelle ("Rudelle Fay Hall")

The Substance of Abstraction
June 4 - June 25, 2011 Reception: Thursday June 9, 2011 6-8 PM

Press Release

The archival inkjet prints of Rudelle possess a virtual liquidity in the spirit of digital wanderlust. Clever injunctions against the tyranny of boundaries, these thrilling patterns are cleverly developed to encourage their audience to engage with them in the hope of revealing the secrets that seem tantalizingly hidden within. Metamorphosed and transformed into unusual shapes, creating intriguing visual mysteries, ephemeral forms fill the frame as the harsh lines of photographic perfection soften and seep into stunning abstraction. A self-taught master of digital manipulation, Rudelle sometimes includes subtly recognizable images, teasing the viewer with creations that seem identifiable, yet which are constantly drawing us further into the ambiguities of her marvelous world. In this way we join with the artist in developing our perception and interpretation through the medium of her remarkable art.

Born in Mill Creek, West Virginia, Rudelle has won over 110 awards for creative achievement in the arts since 2003. She currently lives and works in Seaford, Delaware.

Artist Statement

I draw and paint with the cursor, using my own digital photographs of still life shots and flowers. Flowers provide wonderful color from the brilliance of nature. My images are pushed, twisted and stretched into unusual shapes, creating abstract visual mysteries. I start and continue letting the feeling within spontaneously guide me, and dictate the next direction of movement. Some creations have subtle images formed, for the viewer to find, as you would while searching for familiar images in cloud formations. I create mixed-media by overlaying acrylic, and/or adding glass/acrylic crystals. I have been artistic since childhood and the thought of being an artist teased and tormented me. When I first started showing my art, the love affair became obsession. I’ve been on Fast Forward ever since. I’m finally the real me. Creating art excites, and sometime surprises me. I have been creating art, and it has been creating me.
