Press Release
Trained photographer and emergent sculptor, Samuel E. Burns, channels the raw power of his imagination through the lens of his camera and metals he welds into serpentine abstraction. Finding through both media equally satisfying means of exploring sensory perception, Burns uses his hands to atomize matter and materialize ether. With a responsive eye and sensitive touch, Burns shapes invisible dimensions of reality into vortices of steel, while reducing solid phenomena to pixel values. Surveying the world largely through his camera, Burns captures and reproduces that which seizes his attention: sometimes true to life, other times reinterpreting or deconstructing life through digital manipulation. The multi-talented artist has earned recognition for his striking sculptural designs, with his photographs transforming what we believe to be sensible and concrete into something illusory and nebulous. Samuel E. Burns is a member of the Tri-State Sculptors Education Association. He currently resides in Southport, North Carolina.
