The work of Ralph Mindicino is varied and complex, with a charged emotional impact on his viewers. His series of abstract work has a tactile quality that sustains the viewers’ interest in his simple forms and muted colors. His compositional style is understated, balanced and harmonic. His non-abstract work draws on the theme of industrialization and its effect on humanity. The artist states that he seeks to “explore the dehumanizing effects of corporate culture, its destructive effects on society and the inevitable disintegration of empathy in American culture.” Mindicino’s work conveys this sense of sterility with his bold and brilliant colors depicting city streets contrasted with a cartoon-like figure painted in a subdued black and white. Both his thematic styles are painted on plexi-glass, a medium that evokes modernity and its love affair with man-made materials. Each painting is engraved with finely colored line patterns, attesting to a high degree of craftsmanship. Ralph Mindicino studied fine arts at the State University of New York in Fredonia and Stonybrook.
