Press Release
Edgy, raw and emotionally inspired, the works of Pablo Kontos speak to modern audiences in a deeply personal manner. Kontos’s works are part of a larger series entitled “A Tribute to Loneliness.” As the viewer can see, Kontos’s renderings of himself, others and his surroundings are intense and lurid. His neo-primitive figures and compositions are reminiscent of the thrilling works by Basquiat, while the drama of his color choices remind the viewer of Van Gogh’s brighter-than-life landscapes. Kontos states that he begins his artistic process by “trying to destroy reality” and subsequently re-building a less recognizable, more exciting version of his world through form and color. Pablo Kontos studied painting with fellow Argentinean artist Carlos Gorriarena, attending his studio for two years. Kontos has exhibited his work in galleries and museums throughout Argentina. He currently lives and works in Buenos Aires.
