Press Release

Exploiting specialized training received during his thirty-four year long career as an aircraft engineer in New Zealand and the United States, Australasian artist Murray Swan creates Unique Metalart. This twenty-first century Brancusi utilizes the industrial materials of his former trade. Highly polished stainless steel, copper, titanium, and brass bring Swan’s distinctive creations to life. His desire to reveal the inherent beauty within commonly used metals is made explicit through his poetic designs and talent for metalworking. His personal challenge, to explore the medium’s greatest possible depths, is realized through the elements of color, texture, and form he employs within each piece. Occasionally, Swan integrates recycled New Zealand lumber into his sculptures for added dimension. The results are harmonious sculptures with impeccable grace of form, balance of color, and community of shape. The smooth elegance and seamlessly flowing quality of Swan’s sculptures defy gravity and introduce the viewer to the possibilities and aesthetic beauty of metals. New Zealand-born, Murray Swan currently resides in the small town of Waiuku where he works as a full time artist. Swan exhibits his work worldwide and is currently included in private and corporate collections within Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, and the United States. His most recent projects have included “ArtWorks at the Hilton Exhibition,” and “Mazda Artworks at the Hilton,” for The Hilton on Princes Wharf, as well as a major American commission for the Pinnacle Charter School in Federal Heights, Colorado where he created a one of a kind sculpture that is a captivating combination of both modern art and music.
