Reflections on Storefronts
September 5 - September 26, 2006 Reception: Thursday September 7, 2006 6-8 PM

Press Release

In her new series "Through The Glass Lightly: Reflections On Storefronts," self-trained photographer Michele Kellner sweeps the viewer into a three dimensional stereogram of multiple perspectives. These unlayered, true reflections, caught and enhanced by the eye of the artist, confound what is upon, beyond and reflected in the glass. Armed with technical prowess from 30 years of darkroom experience, Kellner’s first digital series explores the subjectivity of truth by highlighting details that tightly focused eyes miss every day. The resulting black and white images are phantasmagoric, near-abstract arrangements, for which her purpose is clear “We all have our own, rather narrow view of the world,” says Kellner, “I want to broaden that outlook to show that there are several truths happening at the same time — all the time.” Kellner’s work is the topic of a June 2006 article in B&W Magazine and was included in the premier issue of the Australia-based New Antigone Literature and Fine Art Journal. Kellner lives and works outside of Chicago. A portion of all proceeds from artwork sales are dontated to "A Safe Place" Women's Shelter in Waukegan, IL.
