Canadian artist Mary Byers-Brule harmoniously combines color and subject choices in simple stylized compositions that are at once effortless and moving. Mary's work seems straightforward and unadorned, honest and personable, hopeful even. Yet, behind it is an experienced understanding of the need for light in darkness. "With clear colors, recognizable shapes and drawing on past and present experiences, I paint people enjoying simple pleasures within their environment, or getting a fresh perspective on life." Drawing on her own experiences of traveling around the world, Mary clearly references a variety of different light sources, color palettes and compositional arrangements to bring her visions and memories to life on the canvas.
Coming from a family of artists, Mary has been surrounded by the arts from a young age. She has studied at Ottawa School of Art as well as the Montreal Museum of Fine Art and has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, Argentina and the USA.
