Maria Trezzi

Altered States of Reality: an Exhibition of Analog and Digital Fine Art Photography
October 27 - November 17, 2009 Reception: Thursday October 29, 2009 6-8 PM

Press Release

With her use of found text and mainstream media images, Italian artist Maria Trezzi graphically creates collages that are passionate landscapes of the imagination. The inspiration for her unique style is the visual beauty she strives to create with her overall composition, moved as she is by the hope of experiencing balance and tranquility through art. While her finished product is subjected to computer scanning, Maria values the hands-on aspect of creating these collages with scissors, paper and glue. Her work is both strikingly original and strongly rooted in the time-honored ways of creating visual art, but she is not beholden to any tradition that has come before her.

Her commitment to cultural critique and cutting-edge visuals combines in Maria's digital collages to create stunning and provocative surreal worlds of sensory details. Her desire to unearth long-lasting, true values in today's media-fueled world is dynamically evident in these visceral images, which invite us to scrutinize ourselves, our values and our world.

Artist Statement

I grew up in the art world since my grandparents were painters. I was surrounded with brushes, canvases, images, colors and smells. They taught me to live in the real world, but not necessarily with both feet on the ground. I learned the importance of the dream world, the world inside everybody. I think that the most important thing is what you are, not what you know. Everybody should follow their soul and let their inside world grow. I love my “Città Fantastiche” because they are a dreams and I think “Città Fantastiche” can bring a little serenity, quietness and peace to the people who look at it.
