Lynne Young

In Pursuit of Abstraction
May 4 - May 24, 2007 Reception: Thursday May 10, 2007 6-8 PM

Press Release

There is something so compelling about Lynne Young's art that it instantly draws you in. It is surreal, yet oh-so familiar. Life forms spring from the canvas - enmeshed in the most passionate and intense of all human experiences: birth, erotic love, motherhood. The titles of her works unveil the whimsical frankness of her paintings. The abstraction of the figures draws the viewer into the pureness of the moment itself; birth becomes "Birth" with a capital B - the universal experience of creation - and through her art, she makes the viewer feel it - with stark, unbiased emotion. The paintings themselves are beautifully conceived and balanced, usually two figures entwined in their own particular relationship. Her anthropomorphic beings successfully convey the concept of interconnection; that greater symmetry and harmony is achieved through shared experience, or in this case, canvas.
