Abstract and figurative at the same time, Kristina Garon’s acrylic paintings build texture in layers and peaks of dried paint. The paint in each piece swirls like liquid and hardens into structural elements, between which figures appear, following the contours of the abstract forms and at the same time providing contrast via carefully rendered features. Each image works off of an energized blend of color and shape. Faces emerge as linear details repeated among irregularly sculptural paint. Three-dimensional subjects are flattened and the two-dimensional medium of paint is brought forward to create tangible multicolored landscapes. Expressive lines and forms hide and reveal stylized faces, imbuing each work with hidden depth. Each image is overtaken by a staggering array of colors, drawing the eye in swirling interest through the emotions of each piece and at the same time dividing images into mingling warm and cool, dark and light pigments.
Layering paint intuitively on each canvas, Kristina Garon satisfies her curiosity with each stroke. She works free from rules and allows the composition to appear from her process.
Kristina Garon was born and raised in Lithuania and currently lives and works in Washington DC, with plans to soon relocate to New York City.
