Press Release
Jennifer L. Pum’s enigmatic photographs capture a variety of images intended to both represent and evoke human emotions. Whether in black-and-white or colored hues, these photographs are sometimes crisp, as is the tree in “Motionless,” and other times blurred, as is the woman resting on the windowsill in “Unclear.” The landscape appears to hold particular value for Pum, and she depicts it with a strength and mystery that prompts reconsideration of everyday natural elements such as branches and fields. These scenes often appear hazy, as if viewed through the veil of some vivid mental experience. Such perceptions are not accidental. “My work,” the artist states, “is what I feel; it is truly my soul.” Yet, she recognizes that art—its creation and its appreciation—is a highly personal endeavor. In response, Pum’s oeuvre appeals to a range of psychological states and individual tastes that allows her to fulfill her goal—for the viewer to take something away from the encounter with her art. A graduate of the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Jennifer L. Pum has exhibited her fine art photography throughout the East Coast. She works and resides in Easton, Pennsylvania.
