Press Release
Iva Milanova is an artist of contradictions: she has studied the arts but remains fiercely individualistic and she explores spiritual matters through the objective means of art. Milanova’s paintings likewise capture the many faces of her personality. Her subject matter ranges from rowdy geometric configurations to figural works featuring pensive people in dynamic poses. Her later paintings convey an interest in religious iconography, a subject that she takes on with her characteristic gusto. Throughout her oeuvre this artist expresses an interest in the textural quality of paint, particularly observed as light falls upon the canvas, splintering into shards over the impasto surface that is punctuated by peaks and valleys. She also displays an intuitive feel for dynamic spatial geometry. These focal points provide the artist with a strong creative resilience. She describes her art as “a haven for people [where] they feel harmony and enjoyment.”
Iva Milanova is a member of renowned artist organizations and has exhibited her work internationally in major cultural hubs like Paris, Rome, Berlin and New York.
Artist Statement
My love for painting was born when I was a child, nurtured by my art-loving grandmother and parents, and their friends. During my school years I joined the Art Academy of Sofia for three years as a special student. While I was at university my brushes stood still, but the longing to paint never left me, and on completing my Master’s degree in History of Art and Classical Archeology I found that my work had been enriched by my studies. Icons, mosaics and Christian symbols also have their effect on my work, as do colors, to which I am very sensitive. They are an important part of how I capture my mood; for me, painting involves diving into my emotions. I hope that the results will bring joy and happiness to the people who view my work. Currently, I am a member of the "Societe des Artistes Independants", Paris/France.
