Part monster, part man, the characters depicted by the Brazilian/Italian artist Fabrizio Andriani demand immediate and total attention. With a careful and precise hand, Andriani creates figures that appear almost superhuman, hero and villain, expressing and amplifying the emotions experienced and encountered by man on a daily basis. Inspired by Mexican mural art and facets of popular culture such as comic books, movies and video games, Andriani experiments with color, technique and media—including acrylic paint, marker on canvas, and felt-tip pen on paper. His works are caricatures that intentionally exaggerate—sometimes to grotesque dimensions—raw human emotion, conveying through muscular lines, deep shadows, soulful eyes, the inner thoughts of the depicted. Through their meaningful facial expressions, Andriani’s strong characters highlight the marvelous and mysterious nature of life.
An artist, illustrator, and graphic designer, Andriani currently lives and practices in Curitiba, Brazil, where he teaches art and coordinates social/cultural projects and exhibitions.
