Press Release
Enrico Cortesano’s photographs blend the grandure of nature with the machinery of modern life in his photographs of land and sea. His work conveys different moods to his viewer. Sunset scenes capturing pink and gold skies are evocative and nostalgic, while daytime scenes of a bright beach painted against a sparkling sea strike a note of whimsy and humor. Cortesano is an expert at studying one scene in depth to discover its many faces. He shows us undiscovered colors and textures of the beach and the ocean and these are conveyed brilliantly in his pictures. He incorporates both the soft elements of the natural world, as well as the rough textures of cement piping and shingled wood siding. His perspective is consistently dramatic; he offers his viewers a sweeping portrait of the sky and sea, while man-made features stay proportionally small. The end result is a lovely and startling perspective on a familiar scene, one that stays with the viewer long after the picture is out of sight.
