Press Release
Working in a unique free flowing style that combines the dreamlike quality of Surrealism with the energy of Synthetic Cubism, David Jough presents an in depth look at the human mind in his breathtaking oils on canvas. Interested in the concepts of communication, religion, identity, and philosophy, Jough translates complex ideas originating deep within his mind into engaging and detailed visual interpretations. Shapes seem to meld and transform before the eyes, moving with a liquid rhythm that travels across the canvas in an unpredictable and engaging fashion. Accompanied by a highly sophisticated color palette, which the artist describes as a rainbow of colors intended to echo the diverse dreams humans conjure, Jough’s paintings evidence a keen eye and ever-growing talent.
With tremendous abilities and strong body of work, David Jough is a self-taught painter whose paintings resonate with a wide audience. Born in Korea, he now lives and works in California.
Artist Statement
Every person has a range of different faces they wear for different occasions, circumstances and relationships. This realization has played an important part in my life, because I combine my work as a dental technician with my love of art, my professional with my personal life, and my influences from both American and Asian culture. It is a theme that characterizes my art, as I use my own experience as material in the process of creation. Ultimately, I seek to progress and create my own, original, unique face, that will unite all the facets of my character. This will be the work of the rest of my life, as I work with beautiful colors on canvas.
