Bianca Pirlog

There is a vibrant energy and vitality to the works of Bianca Pirlog that makes them stand out and engage directly with the viewer. Her work explores complex themes of mythology linked to the concepts of self and childhood. Pirlog is a highly versatile artist – she is traditionally a painter working with wide expressive brushstroke in oils, but has expanded her expertise into digital media and manipulation. A current running throughout her works is that of visual flux. Forms are fluid, they twist and swirl into each other or fade out to become one. Whilst this is subtly manifested in her paintings, in digital prints Pirlog uses intense artificial colors to form fresh, charged compositions in the style of digital negatives, manipulating her image to the point where it becomes almost unrecognizable. Many images are layered, creating an intriguing patterned surface into which one can gaze and find deeper resonances.
