Press Release
Award-winning photographer Astrid Castillo Quesada is a watcher, a seer, a student of the living world. Since childhood she has studied the people and places around her, transforming this spirit into beautiful and evocative works of art. Taking the unseen subtext of her subject matter and giving it form, Quesada creates daring scenarios featuring the best and worst of human nature. A work presenting dazzling angelic beauty is followed by a sinister image of abandonment; each piece is crafted with expert skills in photography and digital manipulation. No matter what theme she is exploring, Quesada’s compassion for the human condition is particularly tangible. Audiences may detect a real sense of the divine within her photographs, as the artist attempts to reach beyond the physical world toward something enigmatic. "From time to time even characteristics of my strong deism and godliness can be found in my art," she states.
Quesada’s work has been published in major magazines and exhibited in Germany and the United States. She resides in Neersen, Germany.
Artist Statement
Momentary emotions get reprocessed just when I create my pictures. To depict these moods I do need living (human) models! It is my aim to inspire people to detect themselves whilst watching my pictures. Sometimes, my pictures even might be able to tempt the viewers to recall memories, which they had suppressed and that had been drowsing somewhere hidden deeply inside. Most of my pictures get developed – apart from the photographing itself – mainly during re-working with Photoshop whilst sitting in front of my monitor screen. Consequently, the results and style of my artwork is highly influenced by my own temporary vagaries and emotions. From time to time even characteristics of my strong deism and godliness can be found in my art.
