Press Release
An expert at depicting warmth, softness, and tenderness, Ana Maria Hoyos paints mystifying images of faces that carry a wisdom and knowledge of the timeless. Visually comforting, Hoyos' skilled use of color spans the spectrum quietly enough to cause a red to morph into blue with hardly a notice. With compositions marked by placidity, Hoyos creates portraits that flow and mesh with their environment, as if morphing thoughts captured in the process of formation. Hoyos’ balanced paintings show an overall sense of peace and stability even when those she depicts are pained or strained, as if she aims to affirm a scene’s truth without overemphasizing its suffering. An experienced painter, Hoyos’ art has been exhibited in the United States and her native Colombia in numerous exhibitions since the 1970s. Among her most recent exhibitions were solo shows at the Writz Gallery and at One Brickell Square in Miami, as well as a solo exhibition at the Shacknow Museum of Fine Arts in Plantation, Florida.
