Ami Muranetz's paintings and mixed media sculptures have tactile immediacy, bringing together unlike materials and gestures into a raw, vulnerable confluence of forms. Her medium varies in relation to her subject matter, emphasizing Muranetz's interest in message over method. Even at its most abstract, her work invokes the human body. Her figures have a yearning incompleteness at times, suggesting the intangible space that can only be filled by spirituality. A contemporary instantiation of classicism, a pervasive respect for the land and a tendency toward metaphysics all interact fluidly in her work. Muranetz's ultimate goal is to use art as a tool that transcends historical and cultural difference. Opening up a space for collective culture through her work, she encourages people to reexamine their identities in relation to their surroundings.
Ami Muranetz graduated with honors from the visual art program in Camosun College. She has been actively exhibiting in British Columbia since 2005, and works as the Assistant Manager at the One Moon Gallery in Victoria, BC.
