Press Release
Multi-talented visual artist Alex Hiam's bold photomontages are geometrical abstractions of contrasts, color shifts and textures. Hiam uses the medium as an exploration of shape and structure, creating a visual language by superimposing images of such diverse subjects as studio models, architectural details, plants, water or antique typewriters into his photographic collages and creating a sense of intrigue, sensuousness and richness by drawing on the photo-collage prints with graphite, watercolor, gouache, acrylics or oils. At first glance the strong compositions look whole and integral, but on closer examination reveal themselves to be made up of parts of the human body or other familiar forms. By so reconstructing the identifiable into an unidentifiable new reality, Hiam challenges us to stop and think about our surroundings and to view them from another, more unconventional, angle.
Alex Hiam has won many awards for his creative photographs and digital prints. His work has been exhibited in numerous prestigious galleries and juried shows.
