Wendy Webster Good

The Persistence of Form
November 2 - November 23, 2011 Reception: Thursday November 3, 2011 6-8 PM

Press Release

Sparklingly realistic in aesthetic, painter Wendy Webster Good approaches her subjects with an intense tenderness. With lushly saturated waves of color, she portrays the radiant life of her native Maine with opulence in color and composition. The stoic, simple beauty of boats, homes and ocean comes alive through Good’s sensitive, painterly description. The Atlantic Ocean — its romantic glow, its shiny mystery — poetically excites the artist’s inspiration, evoking an intoxicating, unique splendor. Her exceptional watercolor approach conjures up the forceful, elegant energy of the ocean. “Using a dry brush technique with watercolor, I am able to create the details needed to best capture the vivid colors and personality that the Maine seacoast has to offer,” says Good. “My love of a peaceful sunset and the power of the Atlantic Ocean give me my inspiration to create.”

Wendy Webster Good studied at the prestigious Portland School of Art, and has exhibited her work throughout the East Coast.

Artist Statement

My artistic visions reflect my ocean experiences and time spent as stern women on a lobster boat. Through my knowledge of the ocean and its surroundings, I create with heightened realism, and can capture normally unseen details. As a second generation artist, Art has always been a way of life. As a child I painted alongside my mother. I studied art at a university and studied under local artists, both of which broadened my appreciation of watercolor and pencil. Whether looking at a beach scene or at snow on a mountain, it is amazing to see how the colors change from one minute to the next. I love to study a subject and investigate the colors. After raising a family I can now pursue my dreams full-time, and belong to two art organizations that mean my work has been critiqued by many of the most respected artists in the area.
