Tiril

Pathway to Abstraction
November 2 - November 23, 2011 Reception: Thursday November 3, 2011 6-8 PM

Press Release

An intuitive painter whose works are at once sensitive and bold, Tiril creates unforgettable abstract canvases. Each is a unique experience, approached by the artist with a feeling of excitement and adventure unchained by plans or sketches. The paintings are therefore free to evolve and more purely manifest the concepts from which they spring. Tiril employs diverse techniques and varied brushstrokes, ranging from soft layered washes that create subtle depth to exciting thick impasto paint, heavily textured and applied with strong directional brushstrokes. Her use of color is striking yet balanced, bright yellows and sumptuous reds emerging from plainer fields to join blacks, which pull the viewer into their depths. Through color, line and form Tiril seeks to capture the essence of the spirit, to make the metaphysical manifest within the physical painting, using this most fundamental of human languages.

Tiril was born and educated in London but has lived and worked in Huntsville, AL, since 1990. Seeking truth and communication, she is an artist of integrity of expression.

Artist Statement

I am an intuitive painter, I am drawn to paint – I have no control of the timing. I approach each canvas with a feeling of excitement, wonder, and a sense of adventure, free of any preconceived ideas or sketches. Every stroke is a surprise. The concept manifests itself as the painting evolves. Each painting records an extraordinary moment of existence, a confirmation of the reality of the spirit’s journey. Always cognizant of the tenuous balance necessary for the painting’s evolution, I yield to a greater force. It is within this state of thoughtless awareness that I connect on a level that I cannot verbalize. If I think, the authenticity departs. Rather, I trust and paint; my task is to transfer the paint to the support. I believe that through the language of art and the employment of color we are able to communicate on the highest vibrational level.
