Tarah Nutter

The Persistence of Form
November 2 - November 23, 2011 Reception: Thursday November 3, 2011 6-8 PM

Press Release

Sleek, serene colors, tempered with celestial light, distinguish the works of painter Tarah Nutter. With opulent nuance of texture, paint cascades through Nutter’s paintings with startling poeticism. With a soft, ethereal treatment of her subjects, the artist paints fantastic, whimsical landscapes with a sensuous sensitivity towards the essence of her focus. Transfixed by the wonders of the natural world, she observes the fields, trees and flowers in her sight with a distinctive, mystical eye for the capriciously stunning. Nutter believes that painting mediates the vibrations that constitute the essence of painting and thus, between our selves. “As in meditation the goal is to refine the inner vibration,” she explains. “In painting it is the vibrations and relationships between the forms and colors within the work that I’m interested in.” In speaking to these relationships through painterly, delicately lavish brushwork, Nutter portrays the beauty inherent in all facets of the natural world.

Born in Hollywood, Tarah Nutter lives and works in Santa Rosa, California.

Artist Statement

For me, creating art is a meditative process of seeing. Whether it is a dance, an acting scene, prose or a simple drawing, it is the “encounter” that I find seductive and intriguing. Before I start a project, I often have a plan or map of where I want to go with the artwork, but the joy comes from the unexpected. Only then does the art find its potential and become “universal.” My hope is that by sharing my work people will find new appreciation for and value in the world around them. To keep the senses alive and vibrant, like a child’s, an artist must be willing and have the courage to continue to encounter the outside and inner space. If my art can contribute to even one person’s sense of harmony or even the courage “to see,” I feel there is success and value in my work.
