In her whimsically quirky creations Takako Kodani brings to life the vibrant personalities of her subjects with an inventive and lighthearted sense of humor. These lively portraits of women have an impish air, playing with the ladies’ unique characters and dispositions as they stare back in disbelief and surprise. In Takako’s “Kiss” series, sensuously tangled lovers become tightly entwined in a passionate embrace. As she works in pastel and collage on paper, the artist creates a playful union of western and Asian influences. Textural elements of colored paper and fibrous materials pop forward from the background, giving the works an inviting approachability. Kodani says that her work “offers a personal view of the continuous search to express the fusion of western and oriental worlds, whether a simple touch of lines, enigmatical and suggestive looks, or the exploratory perspective of the oriental mystic.”
Born in Japan, Takako Kodani has lived in Caracas, Venezuela for over thirty years. Her works have appeared in solo and group exhibitions throughout both Venezuela and Japan.
