Press Release
Canadian artist SuzieB creates glimpses of the natural world that are vibrant, lively, and candid. Visually, her paintings contain hints of Impressionist allure with a decidedly Modernist bent. Her terrains are rich with color, texture, and all the complexities of light and shadow, and yet are simultaneously contained by a dominant use of line and form. She wields her medium masterfully, so that sometimes the acrylics feel like oil and at other times they employ all the versatility acrylic paint has to offer.
The truly unique aspect of SuzieB’s work is the layers of meaning she infuses into her paintings. Embedded in each image is a self-portrait of the artist, and additionally, she commits to paper the philosophy behind the painting and seals it in a removable tube attached to the back of the canvas. An ambidextrous artist who paints with either hand (and sometimes both at once), SuzieB creates unique, captivating canvases vivid with color and emotive expression, portals to worlds humming with otherworldly energy yet somehow reflective of our own.
Artist Statement
My style is naïve, colourful and candid – my painting process is intuitive, the idea being to capture the energy of the subjects who are my inspiration. I prefer to work with acrylic on canvas or wooden board, and as I am ambidextrous I work with both my left hand and my right hand. Each of my works includes a very small self-portrait – though you might have trouble finding it! There is also a philosophical Secret, associated with the self-portrait and the original conception of the painting, which is sealed in a removable tube and attached to the painting. These concepts are unique to SuzieB™.
