Press Release
Soon Ro Yoon’s serene landscapes express the subtleties and grandeur of nature. Her fine-tuned approach to pointillism creates tapestry-like terrains of color and the mountainous topographies in her images delicately swell like calm waves. The net affect of countless miniature marks, Soon Ro Yoon’s colors exist in the space between solidity and ephemera. Shadows and highlights turn mountains, usually imposing figures, into dreamlike expanses. The majestic moments in each image, inspired in part by Soon Ro Yoon’s experiences in the foothills of the Himalayas, are almost as elusive as they are spectacular and this juxtaposition gives the work its compelling nuances.
As an artist, Soon Ro Yoon understands the power of simplicity and quietude. She relies on her understated observations and persistent craftsmanship to communicate the beauty of the world around her. Soon Ro Yoon studied applied art at Duk-Seong Womens' University. After raising her family, she returned to her artwork and received a graduate degree in painting at Hong-ik University. Soon Ro Yoon lives and works in Cheonan, South Korea.
