SCOTT FORSYTH

Plurality of Expression
January 19 - February 9, 2016
Reception: Thursday January 21, 2016 6-8 PM

Scott Forsyth’s photographs strike a balance between the realistic and the impressionistic, but the quest to bring the beauty of the Canadian landscape alive forms the center of his beautifully composed images. “The natural landscape is my muse for inspiration,” he says. “The sheer magnitude and diversity of Canada’s geographical regions has captivated my imagination and propelled me on a lifelong journey to portray the wonder and beauty of this immense landscape.”  With a sharp eye for color and texture Forsyth creates images that reveal the visual patterns that lie beneath the surface of his scenes while also emphasizing the physical character of each environment.

Shooting digitally and using Photoshop to edit his “digital negatives,” the photographer makes giclée prints that have a remarkable clarity. From the mists rising off of water to a tree’s bark, each surface is meticulously rendered. When that is combined with his ability to manipulate light and color, the result is a strong feeling of depth and space, one that makes Forsyth’s connection to the world he photographs vividly clear.
