Paul Saucier’s oil on canvas works are a study of universal experiential realities. Inspired by the sublime terrain of his current local, a picturesque mountain region of Canada, Saucier’s creative process involves drawing energetically from his environment. Swooping animal forms meet swirling, sweeping formations of richly layered oil in these dreamlike and magical tableaux. Paul Saucier’s highly saturated, carefully composed vignettes portray a journey of self-discovery reflecting the wisdom to be found by those willing to seek it and a holistic creativity that adds a layer of wonder and magic to the whole. The ethereal body in full color emerges throughout the series to produce a powerful, multidimensional and reverential subject. Saucier explains, “[The] emotions of my heart and mind are transformed by light and color into intimate places.”
Paul Saucier was born 1958 in Canada’s national capital of Ottawa. Among his most important influences he counts his teachers Jacques Hurtubise, Kenneth Lochhead and Charles Gagnon, as well as his father, a practicing architect.
