Press Release
Palma Nasoni’s paintings articulate the energy that remains invisible to our eyes, but not our body and spirit. Luxurious stripes of vivid color zip this way and that around each canvas, emanating energy and beauty. Symbolic figures and trees are consumed by this colorfully energetic feast, as realistic details recede into the torrent. She conjures these images from deep within her being and paints with fluidity and fire. “I paint accessing my own madness,” she explains, “a way to go beyond, sacrificing the collective world.” Nasoni has been inspired by the natural world all her life, yet felt the need to go beyond realistic representations of it in order to express something more profound. Cultural signs and spiritual transformation are recurring themes in her work, and we find articles of the Christian faith sprinkled within her oeuvre.
Palma Nasoni has been on a path of learning, a journey that has taken her back to the Old Masters of the Renaissance and to prestigious art academies in Italy. She lives in Rome.
Artist Statement
I'm from Rome, Italy. My passion for painting started when I was in High School experimenting with different techniques. I started occupying myself with graphic design and, later, painting. After two years in America, I felt I needed to attend a serious painting course at a prestigious school, which resulted in a Master’s Degree in Arts and an understanding of what I wanted to paint – spiritual figures and nature. I became inspired by traveling and seeing the wonders of the world outside Italy, while the spiritual images have inspired me with the Roman atmosphere. I currently use acrylic paints, which allow me to express myself with velocity. My paintings express a triumphant connection between the real world and the unreal part of the world we cannot yet see. My work represents the need to express my inner self, become what I really am, without confusing identity with eccentricity.
