Nancy Stella Galianos’ highly sophisticated acrylic abstracts balance explorations of shape, color and space all within a single canvas. With a mixture of palette knife and brush, Galianos builds a composition out of dynamic organic shapes, sometimes leaving the forms impulsive and unpolished and sometimes finishing them in exquisite detail. The shapes are simple, but they interlock and feed each other in energetic ways. The purity of line serves to highlight Galianos’ textures, which are wonderfully varied and deployed with a pop of movement. The artist’s greatest tool, however, is her palette. She works according to the emotions that each color stirs in her: warm colors for excitement and happiness, green for inspiration, and cool colors for contemplation and peace. One painting may be a variation on monochrome, the next a blaze of loud contrasts. She is adept with a wide range of pure and blended tones, but the colors are always saturated and confident.
Nancy Stella Galianos was born in Montreal and currently lives in Mont St-Hilaire, Quebec. She has exhibited throughout Canada and the United States.
