Press Release
Uruguayan artist Milka Hiliana Muniz Garcia produces visionary paintings that feature mythic protagonists, planetary panoramas, and fantastic avian beings. Her works are dreamlike and ethereal, the sensitive brushwork and swirling atmospheric mists are complemented with solid figures, patterns, and forms. Garcia has developed a universe that answers only to her dictates, and though her work contains qualities that suggest a South American origin, the fruit of her boundless imagination supersedes both time and space.
In 1991 Garcia was offered a scholarship to study in Peru, which provided her opportunities to immerse herself in other South American cultures. Her travels throughout Latin America, United States and Europe helped shape her growth as an artist. Two of her artworks were selected to be part of the Fundacion de Arte Uruguayo in Washington D.C., and were included in a traveling exhibition by the Uruguayan Embassy. In December 2006, Garcia was formally recognized for her international artistic achievements. Garcia lives and works in Uruguay.
