Marco Antonio Abbagnara

Primal Abstractions
August 12 - September 1, 2006 Reception: Thursday August 17, 2006 6-8 PM

Press Release

Artist Marco Antonio Abbagnara paints stories, images and metaphors in his detailed, yet simple paintings. Abbagnara paints on black iron plates, called Monoliths. This medium adds an ancient quality to his work that compliments the themes he is interested in, such as legends, and universal experiences such as birth and death. The artist states that his greatest inspiration is “the expression of freedom.” The viewer can see this concept thoughtfully articulated in his paintings through the artist’s choices of form and color. Critics have praised Abbagnara’s work as “deep and introspective,” as well as “rich in symbols and full of emotion.” Marco Antonio Abbagnara has won several awards for his paintings and has exhibited his works in Milan and several other cities in Italy. He currently lives and works in Gallarate, Italy.
