Press Release
Photography by Marcio Pilot is a salutation to color, movement, and pure human drama. The dance of bodies is etched across the photograph, while beautiful garments fan out to display a wealth of hues and patterns. Invigorating our senses and stirring our soul, Pilot’s imagery overpowers our balance as our eyes are compelled to dash across the picture plane. His art becomes an experience, not about a destination but a journey of rhythms that celebrate the cultural pathways of dance, theater, fashion, and storytelling.
Working with other subjects, Pilot’s sensitively crafted nude studies and portraiture artfully examine the beauty of the human form itself. Compelling individuals are drenched in magnificent lighting as their features and poses speak volumes without uttering a word. "I believe very much in the infinite possibilities that human body allows through the lens," he states. "[To] shoot dancers is one of my passions." Pilot exhibits his photography frequently and has works in collections around the globe from Brazil to Beijing. He lives in Campinas, Brazil.
Artist Statement
My work is affected by all aspects of my life, by everything I see, feel, experience. The way I see the world through my lens changes every day, influenced by both dramatic events and the small occurrences of ordinary life. I have an ongoing fascination with the female figure, and it is a recurring theme in my art. I am particularly interested in using dance and choreography in my images, a passion developed during my time as a sound technician for Chorus Line in Rio de Janeiro. I try to capture the encompassing sense of light, music and beauty that I felt then.
