A sense of sparkling exuberance permeates and characterizes the works of Chilean artist Magdalena Errázuriz. Taking her subjects from life, Errázuriz conjures a fanciful, expressive world all her own, yet alluring and indeed intoxicating for the viewer. Blending realistic renderings of figures with animated, impressionistic washes of light and color, the artist transforms her experiences of the world into opulently radiant paintings. These works are striking for their symphonies of color and form, calling us to stop and consider the concepts within them. “During the time I work on a specific project I rearrange and comprehend my feelings, experiences and ideas which are now loaded images,” explains Errázuriz. “Most of the experiences represented in my work bring along feelings and emotions to which people relate.” The resulting works seek to bond us with each other and our own emotions, creating a space in which we may commune and connect with each other.
Magdalena Errázuriz studied art therapy professionally, and currently works in that field, in addition to creating her own art. She lives and works in Santiago, Chile.
